Went to an estate sale and picked up 3 more wagon wheel rims. The picture above is a carriage wheel rim and the 3 I picked up are real wagon wheel rims about 3 time as wide. Two of the rims are front wheel and one is the rear wheel. Some of the rims have torn steel from the trip of the past (1860's).

Getting back to panning has anyone made a centrifugal type of pan where the water goes around in a circle like a blue bowl however with a lot more force?

Some pictures of the real wagon wheel rims as well as a tent style of wood stove custom made out of gauge sheet metal with folding legs. I also picked up another treadle stand all of this from the same estate sale. The wagon wheel rims are 43" for the front rims and 57" for the one rear rim. The tear in the steel rim is from the trip out here in the west around 1860's. All of the rims are also out of round from the trip.
As a new experiment for at least one rim is going to be a centrifugal or whirlpool type of pan.

Just pointing out that this pan foundation is made for 200 - 700 pounds of materials per pan batch. This shound be mounted to the ground or better yet solid rock so as to not move when in use.

Yep the fines will even drop out quiker if some centrifical forse is used in the pan. Size of pan makes no difference. This is a law of science.

The rest of the materials can be shoveled out to speed up the panning process for the next panning run.

A movement and roll action is what a lot of people like to use with a pan for very fine values however this is very hard to do when your pan weighs more the 700 pounds for example. Why not try a centrifuge action to the pan and have most free / loose fines drop out in maybe a part of the first inch of material.

Anyone make a large gold pan for fine materials and what is your experience?
In my case I'm going to make a 4 foot diameter gold pan from a wagon wheel rim as the foundation. Will put a 16" steel pan in the center where the materials come in first.
I think you have large quantities of material to go through?
Better of getting a cube or dream mat?

The gold cube etc. has it's place.
The idea and purpose of the pan in to remove large amount of iron to help speed up the process for the next step.

A pan this size can pan a batch of material in as little as 5 minutes for the pan action and a number of minutes to shovel or remove (vacuum out ) the unwanted materials as a first step to extracting the values that may be there.
A mush smaller pan can be used for finishing process if you like.
