What is HO scale in model trains?

HO or H0 is a rail transport modelling scale using a 1:87 scale (3.5 mm to 1 foot). It is the most popular scale of model railway in the world. The rails are spaced 16.5 mm (0.650 in) apart for modelling 1,435 mm (4 ft 81⁄2 in) standard gauge tracks and trains in HO.

O scale used to be called 1/4 inch scale with the ratio to the real thing as 1:48 with HO being 1/8 inch scale and 1:86 or 1:87. ...
HO is the next size and has been referred to as Half O with N scale being about half of that.

Scale implies that is it a scaled down version of the real thing. O scale used to be called 1/4 inch scale with the ratio to the real thing as 1:48 with HO being 1/8 inch scale and 1:86 or 1:87. ... HO is the next size and has been referred to as Half O with N scale being about half of that.

First attempt at N scale, not good at all. Corners too tight. That causes them to derail and fall off table, not good. N is too small for me..

Thank you! The decals are worth ...sold as a lot, twice what I paid for both boxes. All the trains, parts, metal buildings...plastic buildings are made in the USA. A lot of it 50 years old.

I always wanted to have a model railroad layout but now the price of locomotives and rolling stock has gone out of sight!
