Hey guys got out and did some metal detecting today and I found this and when I first dug it I thought it was a shotgun shell but then when I dug it out and noticed it was not a shotgun shell but now after I clean it up a little bit I think it is a shotgun shell it says Winchester number 10 on one end and UMC number something on the other.

First sort of looks like two 10ga brass shotgun shells, one shoved into the other.

Second item looks like a buckle but isn't. The tangs on the back are too light and in the wrong place. It does appear to attach to leather though. Nice finds!

yup the first is two shotshells stuck together. My grandfather used to keep matches in shells just like that for hunting and camping.

I agree, I found a mated pair just as you described at a flea market in very nice condition. The elderly veteran seller told me the same thing. Sub

The buckle thing is very small like the size of a match box

The overlapping initials on the brass plate look like turn of the 20th C era to me. I can't figure them out though...

the flat one looks like an ornamental metal cover for a small wooden box...see how the tines could be inserted and folded over?
