Found this on a very old property property was purchased in 1790 and their son was a soldier in the war of 1812 they bred championship trotting horses and had a early hotel that burnt down in 1916 I have no idea what this is any help appreciated
Noah_D's guess (he said "can't decide" and "I'm thinking") is correct... your find is a brass "thimble" (a.k.a. ramrod guide) from a Colonial Era flintlock musket. Its size tells us it is from a musket rather than a flintlock pistol.
One of the key ID-clues is the presence of a notched (or holed) flat flange running along the brass tube's upper side. That is how it was attached to the gun's wooden stock. See the images below.
I knew it was a gun part when I saw the "IX" mark on it. Those are assembly marks so the parts ended up with the right gun since most all parts were hand fit and wouldn't interchange. Neat find! Gary
