Appalachian Pirate Treasure

Iā€™ve never been this lucky in my lifeā€¦ Iā€™ll try to make this as fast as possible. So! I was sifting an over hang (ON MY PROPERTY, I feel like thatā€™s important to clarify) very successfully by my standards, Iā€™ll post the pictures of the artifacts after this. Anyway, I was sifting some fresh soil when I see a round disk drop out of a dirt clod on the the screen, trying not to get my hopes up I reach down and pick up the abnormally heavy object. My hearts beating like crazy, as I turn it over Instantly realize what Iā€™m holding.. a beautiful 1786 8 REALE!!! Made in Lima Peru. I literally almost cried, after years of metal detecting I just happen to pick this up out of the ground by chance with no detector??

The overhang is on an old wagon road that passes by my familyā€™s homestead house in West Virginia, I wonā€™t get any more specific haha. Not nearly as deep as the arrowheads of course. And I thought I was lucky when I found a half reale! Thanks for reading, enjoy the finds!

Oh! If anyone has any info on time period of artifacts or various names of them Id be grateful to hear about what Iā€™ve found! B081069B-3CF8-49C9-97D7-B3B643842F8A.jpeg

Like another implied, Native American Cordware pottery is likely Late Woodland. But, if that is correct, it could easily cross into Colonial times and therefore the 8 Reales could be a trade item. Who knows, I guess. Florida was still Spanish in the late 1700's. But - BIG congrats on your excellent finds!

Thanks a pretty awesome find. Way to keep your eyes open! Over the years Iā€™ve found enough old surface finds that I constantly look at the ground now

Completely and utterly awesome. Makes you wonder if the guy who lost the 8 Real also found a few artifacts there. Congratulations and thank you for posting them.
