The wind has been blowing like crazy for several days so I headed out to a sandy spot a few hours away to see what may have been uncovered. It's always a crap shoot driving out to this spot as sometimes the wind just covers everything up and it's nothing but barren sand. Fortunately, this time, it was pretty exposed in a few places.

There's no artifact in this pic, it just shows the exposed rocks, chips, shells and bones. The pic is a bit dark and grainy because it was overcast.

This little drill is the finest, most delicate one I've ever found!

The finds included a nice thin platter made from dense volcanic red scoria, several little points, one of which was repurposed into a drill, and the bone awl. The tip of the awl was the only part in the sand and the exposed whiter part was disintegrating quickly, it wouldn't have lasted much longer exposed. The shell beads were used like sequins on caps they crafted from sagebrush fibers to help keep the sun from baking their brains.

A couple more pics "in situ".

Okay, back to metal detecting now...

What an insane amount of history to go pull out if the ground!!! Hopefully the wind is blowing and your right back out there. It would be nice if you could move some sand with a leaf blower!! Really nice!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to post this pic. I know you love the banded obsidian Fat, so here's a backlit shot of the little banded Rose Spring point.

Great hunt, well done getting the little drill.
Nice seeing the pic with the light behind the banded obsidian.
There must be 3 or so that light would pay them justice.

Wonderful looking conditions to find things. I've only done a little looking around in Northern Nevada. For two decades I would travel all over that northern part of the state from east to west and north and south visiting mine sites. Recently though I took a job that keeps me now close to home, but I sure did enjoy those days of being far and away from it all out on all that open country where the spirits of old still linger. It at times felt like a place that time forgot and nobody wanted to stay and change it all like here in the state of Colorado.
