It looks like there are 5 balls still in the cylinder, but the chambers are empty otherwise. Is that a bit odd?
The bluish/white shininess you see is uncured preservation solution.

The oblong thing that I originally thought was a big pocket knife turned out to be an old glasses case.
It was in the hot pot for the same amount of time.

The first photo is the revolver as found. The last four are of the glasses case.

Well, could be the black powder went bye-bye, leaving the round balls alone...!

Congrats on the really cool find. Somehow I got logged out of T net awhile back and now the whole layout looks different then on tapatalk. Anyway I missed the backstory on your find. That's either an original 1858 Remington revolver or a repo of one which they've been making repos for over 40 years. Don't know if you were at an old site with Civil War possibilities or not as I missed all that. I'd say it's original.

Explain?
Walgreens is political now? You are cheering for law breaking shoplifters now? You hate San Francisco? What are you trying to say?

Beautiful job! I'd love to have a revolver like that. It's a cap and ball, so the chambers would have been filled with powder but there would have been no brass cartridge. Likely the powder leached out if they are empty.
Or, the owner was killed in the act of loading.... and only got the balls loaded...
