Attleboro Red Rhyolite- Merrimack Stemmed

My son and I went surf casting for Fluke yesterday just before sundown. Didn?t intend to hunt arrowheads but the fish just weren?t biting!
Anyway, I spotted a sliver of red material in the sand between the rocks.

Not super well made, but the deep burgundy banding in the Rhyolite is quite striking.

Love that color. It looks like one well defined shoulder or ear. Was it made like that, or did the other break off?

The quartz has some clear qualities. That's a small one. Amazed how they were able to make them that small and symmetrical.

Without having it in hand, I'd say the red one was symmetrical at first. As for made like that or broken off or usage wear, Mucker needs to chime in on that.

I do see a little ding there but it appears it still would have one shoulder much larger. I'm asking in Regards to this point I've bern trying to I'd. Only 1 shoulder.

I really love that dark red burgundy tho. I find nothing but light red rhoylite my way.

If I recall there was a post in the last year or so that highlighted stemmed knife forms. There was a large number of photos added from the forum and a high percentage of knives had only one shoulder. Argillite often leaves you with few clues.

If Charl chimes in, he could tell you which point types were often made of this material.

The burgundy Point with the single shoulder is a worn down Merrimack Stemmed Point. The wear is so severe that I can?t determine if it ever had a second shoulder. But the shoulders are always slight on these points, and sometimes nothing but a barb after resharpening.
