Went back today to the area where I dug up those 3 barber dimes the last three weekends and was totally surprised with a sterling
silver Air Wings form either the U.S. Air Force or the U.S. Army Air Corps! They were only about 4 inches deep. Also dug up a 1911 V nickel
and 6 wheaties. Not sure what decade the silver wings are from? Could be WWII or Korean War era? Total clad coins dug today was a little over $14.00.
The 38 aluminum tokens I dug was a little weird? Why they were so many spread out over this area is a real mystery!

Having been in the USAF, those wings are definitely find of the day for me. Worth the restoration as Argentium suggested.

Congrats on all those cool finds from that site. :occasion14: It appears to me that you've been hunting virgin grounds. As for the tokens, some curches start up without a building for their congregation. I'd assume there were some open air services performed in the area.

Congrats on a super hunt. The silver wings depict the US Army seal, so definitely WW2 up to 1948 when the USAAC became the USAF. My theory on the tokens, they were put inside of the plastic eggs for a church egg hunt at Easter years ago, and became stomped into the sod during the frenzy...:laughing7: Sub

I think you are correct. I just checked out my old army dress green uniform and the seal matches the buttons on my old uniform. This make them even more special that they are WWII and Army Air Corps. My Grandfather was a top turret gunner on a B-17 during WWII, Wow! These are from his time!

Awesome CHF, we honor your grandpappy for his service. It was a tough duty to be stuck in a flying fishbowl with only twin fifties to separate you from the Zeroes or Messerschmidts. Grandpa would have worn either this type of wing (General Air Crew Member) or the more defining set of wings with the Aerial Gunner center seal. (Looked like a bullet.) Sub 8-)

On the tokens`-`

When I was a teen in the mid 80's, every time I walked out the door on the homestead, I would reach in my pocket and chuck any change I had as far as possible into the yard. I'm not sure why I did this, but it became a habit for about 4 years.

Anyone know what crew member would have worn the type I found? Is this the pilot version that I found? Any more information would be appreciated.
