I decided to get back at an old site, after two years. Someone has been cutting and cleaning the east side of the hill. It looked like a park on 40° :).
A few Roman coins. Just close to an olive tree, planted lately, the silver drachm was around 3 cm deep.

Probably it came out when the tree was planted. I can read only the first magistrates, EYME.
Apollonia, Illyria. AR drachm. 18 mm, 2.66 g. Magistrates Eyme. EYME above cow standing right, suckling calf.

Heading to the top of the hill, there were less targets and deeper. I had to dig for 20 minutes just to be nearth a big hammered iron nail.
One of these deep signals was this bronze piece. Interesting. Still I don't have any idea what it might be.

Fantastic find. How deep do you reckon the Roman layer is that got disturbed by that tree?

I cant even imagine finding something that ancient! I got excited over r my Colonial 1700's stuff, let alone a Roman artifact. The piece with the face is absolutely amazing! I will be watching to see what it is, congrats!

I can't tell it. An olive tree needs at least a 50cm to be planted(a young one) so it can be on the first 50 cm but also deeper. The bronze figurine was at least 30 cm deep.

Did you find the coin in Apollonia?
Don.....
Hi Don!
Absolutely not. That's an archeological site. Anyway, the farmers do find coins while plugging their lands around the site(but I mentioned that my private site :)) is on a hill).
I did a web search but haven't found another similar.

First, i didn't realise it was a figurine. I was holding it upside down. Don't mind my white fingers on my first pictures. That's the peroxide's effect. Never happened before.

It looks like a Roman bronze ewer handle with mask and probably, he's Bacchus.
Bacchus was the god of the grape harvest, wine-making, and wine. He was associated with ritual madness and ecstasy, particularly on account of his female worshippers, the Maenads.

I found one coin with the APIE reverse:
And another coin with the EYME obverse: (Ceka 52 here)
But I haven't found one that matches both sides.
Great finds!! Keep 'em coming.
Don.......
Thanks a lot Don! I was focused on Eyme and didn't search for them separated. Should I think that mine is a rare one!!!
