Recently I started to look for a new backpack, so I checked out Amazon and there were literally thousands of options, most of which were junk. My next move was to come ask here, where I can receive a few dozen suggestions which are mostly junk:laughing7:. I really like to be able to carry all my equipment in my backpack so that I can walk down the street or go in stores without getting weird looks. I'd like something large enough to carry my boots, waders, detector (Ace 400), and a folding shovel, but sturdy enough to not break when full of rusty garbage. I'd also like it to not cost too much. I've got about $45 in Amazon gift cards, so that's pretty much my limit, but feel free to recommend whatever you want.

That's a pretty tall order. Waders and boots - they're gonna be wet if not muddy. And bulky. The collapsible shovel is not a problem, but the detector sure is if you want it inside a backpack that wont get weird looks in a store.

It's a weird bunch of stuff to carry into a store, after all.

It's all more compact than you would think, but those are good looking bags, I hadn't even though thought about something duffel bag style.

I use my old Army Rucksack with metal frame, (because the Army went to the new MOLLIE rucksack which is larger btw with durable plastic frame), for all my gold prospecting pans, gear, and essentials. I have extra padding for the waist strap. If you want something that will take a beating get a new military rucksack with frame.

Problem with duffle bags, they have no frames and if you have a lot of equipment in it and you are hiking with it you will have whatever gear in there rubbing up your back making for an unpleasant carry. The sites I posted in there some of them have sniper packs that your metal detector may fit in, depending on the size.

Garrett has back packs that the wife and I use. You detector should be able to break down and stuff into these packs also your pouch a belt, pin pointer etc will fit. this is how we do it. Grab one back pack and everything is in it lesche tool (digging tool) batteries they all fit. No forgetting things left behind (I drove 100 + miles to a site and forgot my headphones) Yep it all fits but no more items left behind (water bottles fit into pouches on both sides) and a good beef jerky bag will fit in the pack for break time) :) Hope this helps :) I forgot the waders. we don't use them.
