2 boxes of halves were skunks...well except for a 1971 D that has a silver rim and feels differently than a normal clad. I am going to get some opinions on it next week to see if there is an off chance it is a silver error coin. Complete long shot i know, but it is the weirdest coin ive ever come across, it acts like a silver. I'll post pics later this weekend if i get the chance.

Went in to dump today, along with $200 in dimes and $100 in nickels, and as they are sorting mine, the teller is like "here you want this? its from earlier today," and I look and it is a 1942 nickel, i flip it around and BAM, big ole S above monticello...scored silver baby!! Kept my emotions in check though as I fumbled around for a nickel to exchange her for it. Didn't wanna give away my excitement. Im not sure to what extent she knew what she had, but ill take silver where I can get it!

Weigh the half - if it is 11.5 grams, you may have found a HUGE score!!!

I know exactly what you mean, I also found a 1971D that is heavilly tarnished like silver. When I weigh CuNi clads on my 250 gram scale, they usually weigh in at 11.0 to 11.1 grams. But this silver looking 1971D weighs in at 11.4 grams, the same as one of my 40% 1967's. The other 40% 1967 weighs in at 11.5 grams. When I first found this 1971D, I remember thinking that it could possibly be an error coin, but I wasn't sure. I wasn't going to mention it until I could get it verified. After reading this thread, I decided to do the above mentioned weight comparison. Glad to see that I'm not alone in finding one of these.

In the red book it said that 71d & 77d some errors were made on 40% coins so it sounds like you got a good one

I found one last year triple dipped in silver. Looked, weighed, and even smelled just right. Didnt sound right was its give away. There is no hiding that.

Yea that is the only thing about mine is that it also doesn't sound right. It doesn't sound exactly like clad, but it doesn't sound like silver either. I wonder if someone just coated it as a fake. I have a local coin shop who is pretty good, so ill have them take a look.
