They need to take cadaver dogs and colon scopes.

Giant coconut crabs scavenge and hoard bones in their holes. Sounds like they have even narrowed down the location on the island.

I can't believe the Itasca didn't find her, working the line "157 - 337" to Gardiners Is.

Thanks for sharing. This one has always intrigued me. Captured by the Japanese, Noonan was a drunk etc etc. Ive watched the older ones on NG.

Was he a drunk? That would explain his abysmal navigation.

I've actually navigated on big water by compass and sun/stars, and run RDFs and it's not that hard. You can even do that without instruments; Crikey - the Polynesians found Hawaii.

Now the question seems to be why didn't Earhart fire him?
