Hi
I was given a barn wood beam from a guy I met on Facebook marketplace happened to be black walnut. To thank him I made him a shelf/mantle today. All the wood came from the family farm. He wasn't exactly sure how long it was in his family. I'm from will county Ilinois. Wood is all nominal 8x8 4x4 4x6 e in the 6' to 8' range. I've also attached pics of some of the nails I removed and the black walnut shelf I made. I cut a small piece off one of the beams and I think its oak? I am just looking.to see what I have here and a rough age?

I would say 1800-1840 especially large beams with notches.

1830's 40's 50's are good early dates for barns in Illinois. some still exist.

If those are square rose head nails/spikes they could go back further than the 1800s
