I got out today in the pouring rain. This is why I love the AT Gold. I can hunt anytime I want. I had only a two-hour hunt because I was soaked like a wet rat. I found 4 more buttons, musketball, and a beautiful 1822 Coronet cent. I think I may have found the trash pit. I was digging an iron signal and out popped a honking piece of Colonial pottery. What is the large relic with the hole? It was found in the heart of the iron. Thanks for looking.

Keep the passion high!

Kirk

Its a brass insert for a door latch. Don't know the name but look at one of your doors at home.

You're right but it's odd that it only has one screw hole.
That's because it's broken. It looks like the type that would have had 2 rectangular holes when in use. It's called a striker plate. 1 for the regular door latch & 1 for a deadbolt. Age ? Who knows. 50 years old, 5 years old.. Throw it in your scrap brass bucket.

Great finds again Kirk. I thought it odd that the striker plate only had one hole too, lol.
