Sure would love to find something made out of this material.
Tried to convince myself it was a scraper, but it just doesn't fit the hand.
Left it there as evidence for future people.

Anybody know what type of material it is?
I'd call it Carmel something..

where are you located? here in the mid atlantic area that material would be jasper.

break it. Is the center of the new break a different color as the outside?

Is that in a creek bed? Often some flints will absorb minerals in the ground water, changing the color of the stone.

Flint, like glass, has microscopic holes which can fill with minerals.

Just doesn't really feel right. It does have an edge to it.

arrow86 nailed it for you. Little flake core. In Penna. those were made/used by Woodland era people previous to Levanna-Madison.

Well it IS chipped on the very tip of what would be the working edge if it were a scraper.
Do you all typically keep cores?

Petrified wood would be interesting. I don't see any grain pattern, but I'd accept that probably as an answer..or maybe jasper?

That material looks like Jasper that I find in N. California .
