Well, I thought I had lost my mojo...haven’t found anything in almost a month. Weather has been tough and lots of mud, rough sifting. So last couple days I changed it up, left my main rock shelter and explored some other spots in the cliffs above the creeks. Two days ago, I found a nice chunk of chert, and then, finally, yesterday...looked down in the dirt of an overhang and boom, I’m back on the board with a nice little find. I’m pumped, really was starting to wonder after being skunked for past 3 plus weeks! Back on the trail of the ancient ones. Thanks for looking, please share any thoughts on time period of this little point. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1589302105.328583.jpg

Nice little point. Depending on where you are in Eastern Kentucky, it might be a dark piece of Carter Cave or Paoli chert. Pretty stuff.

There are a lot of late Archaic & Woodland stemmed points. You likely need to find some associated relics to be able to type them. Late Archaic Stemmed point is probably an accurate name.

It does look like a Robeson, but like the later Mississippian triangles, they are named more for specific sites and associated relics than just the point. (I used to hunt the site across the Wabash River from the Riverton Site where the Robeson was named, great sites. Basically big sites up and down the river there.)

Man, I appreciate the feedback I always get here! I’m in Elliott/Morgan county area, and have been finding different projectile points and chert tools out here since about February. This little one was on top of the dirt in a rock house, that I have found several pieces in. I’ve been posting pretty much the best stuff I’m finding regularly on here. The feedback has been that the stuff I’m finding is pretty much in the Archaic period, along with a chert flake made like a small Clovis style. I’m very close to the Carter Caves area as a crow flies at least. I’ve found several brown and tan projectiles, which would certainly fit that description. I’ve also noticed I’ve found brokes/partials of a material that is not as shiny and glass like as the chert pieces. Just grateful to find these links to the ancient people who populated my property long long ago. Fascinating really when I think about the amount of time these pieces have lied forgotten in the dust and dirt of these areas. Again, thanks for sharing your insight with me
