I thought I remember reading an old article from one of the fishers themselves that they already found the stern castle based on the types of gold and religious artifacts found, but never saw any mention of it again. Maybe one of those ooops moments. That could be completely inaccurate however. I remember reading it and scratching my head. They have done a lot for the community and continue to do so. I Wish them the best of luck and safety!

From everything I've read I thought it is in 50 ft. of water???

That's where they found the main pile. But there is a scatter trail that goes up into shallower water.

This is my partner aboard the Dauntless after he found an 8 reale coin. This was back in 1992 when we were working Emerald City.

A couple years back, they had identified a spot the drift trail passed over rock or bedrock. Thought we might hear some good news sooner (guess later is better than never).

I have some notes on the Atocha.
The place where the Atocha hull had sunk, according to the info from the references, was in the deep water of a 55 foot depth. It seems the public records place the coordinates in the center of the sand bar.
Also should quote Salvor6 on this.
"So far they have gone out 10 miles in a northwest direction finding artifacts (and gold) all along the way."

Maps I'd made years ago, still in PhotoBucket and can't get them out because don't use the site anymore. If you can ignore the logo, most details are visible yet. About 6 maps in all, bottom edge right half identifies a couple rocks.

Map appears to be moving west or even NW.

Follow the maps, maybe can figure out where they lead. Note the 22 ft deep hole middle top edge. Somebody once suggested the military used the area for bombing practice during WWI or WW2. Hope the sterncastle wasn't still visible and they decided to practice on it.

Map could be where drift trails loop around and then back, before heading off to the NW direction.
