Beeping in the New Year ( 2x seated) the right way!!!

Happy New Year T-netters. Hit a new site that's on the 1867 plat map but gone by the 1882 map. Coins are a 1855 largie, 2x 1867 injuns and a Beautiful 1853 seated dime . But if you look close that's the center out of another seated dime next to it. That's CRAZY. Has anyone ever seen anything like it? Thx for looking and HH

That's pretty odd!! I have made rings out of mercury dimes where I cut out the winged head, then cut out all except the outer edge and solder jump rings on the head and outside of the ring so it ends up as a ring with a dangling mercury head. A girlfriend had one from an antique jewelry shop which she lost and I made her and a friend of hers new ones. Now your interesting find must have been cut out of a dime but I'd sure like to know why!!

That makes two of us. What do you use to cut them out with?

I use a jeweler's saw with a very fine blade. One first drills a tiny hole in the dime where there are no details and then insert jeweler's saw blade into hole and cut out head then cut around the whole diameter. It takes some patience and skill but I am well versed in the ways of the jeweler's saw.

Holy cow fishstick. You beeped in the New Year in style for sure. Great bunch of old coins. I've never seen anything like that punched seated coin. Prety strange ( but way cool)!

Nice finds! With a loop soldered on, the dime center could be a button. Although why someone would destroy a dime for a button is questionable. And it would be quite a bit of work, so probably not the intended use. Just speculating. Or maybe it was going to be punched and used for a bracelet dangler. Odd find, anyway.
