Went back to the area in the gold coin field were I got 5 coppers and the 1834 sixpence on Sunday. Started popping coppers immediately and ended up with seven which I think is my most for 1 hunt. Probably close to 40 from this large site by now. Knew there had to be a half dime out there and finally after about six weeks since finding the site one finally revealed itself:hello2: Also had a heartbreaker silver quarter beneath a nearby old deer stand

I had the same thought as Steve, lots of coinage, but not much of the 'everyday' losses. :icon_scratch:
Based on the date range of your coins, possibly a CW period cache of buried coins that's been spread around by plowing over the past 150+ years.

Thanks for sharing a pic of your site as well, offers us a bit of perspective.

That’s a good theory but the coins are scattered too far apart for a cache imo and there is a small iron patch around the cropmark in the pic I posted so there definitely was a structure there. Some sort of commercial business is my theory. I have found a few other sites over the years with just coins and not much else

I hear you, I detected an c1840 homestead site from 2014 -17 and found close to 50 coppers dating from 1850 - 1920. The coins were spread over a 1-acre section of the property. I also found a 1/2 dozen smokehouse padlocks. A few years later when archaeologists were digging the site, I stopped to talk to them and was told, "the people who lived there probably smoked and sold lamb on the property due to the large quantity of sheep bones they'd found." This would account for the large amount of coppers that were probably in the home when it burned in the 1930s. The site has since been developed for new home construction.

Here's a pic of the homestead foundation the arkies uncovered and a few of the relics I found... I never told the arkies I'd detected there. :laughing7:
