Thanks Blak Bart! Just dug 12/30 after three days of strong south winds on or near a 1715 treasure beach. I was watching this beach for a few days and saw more sand had left and the crunchy coquina sand was less than a scoop below the beach. This was at low tide in the lowest but wetest part. I found a large pyramid sinker first, then a lump of copper slag and finally the dividers, mostly in a line like a coin line would be. I first though it was a hitch pin but saw it was chart dividers due to the finger holes and hinge. And the little details on the edges to help you hold them.

I found two papers with pictures or descriptions of this type of artifact. One was from J. Clausen, archeologist who documented finds made on a “1715 Spanish Treasure Ship” and had a (bad quality) photo with the same type dividers as I found. The second was a private collector who also had a picture and description as 1715. Also found a real nice picture said to be Dutch made.

I am still stoked, one of my best finds. Always wonder who held it last, what was happening.

By 1/1 it had closed out. Regards,
