What’s your best settings for hunting civil war sites with your F75? I’m interested in hearing everyone’s responses. I’ve got a pretty good setup, but looking to hear yours. I’ve been contemplating going to motion all metal, but where I hunt the bullets, and buttons are always shallow due to the rocky soil.

I don't consider myself a relic hunter; but I've played around on my 20 acres just looking for oddities and I think my F75 is pretty good in all metal for iron and anything else. Do a manual ground balance every so often.

I used the BP mode, 6 on disc, sensitivity at 94, and notch 1, tones at 2f. I’d say I did rather good in a beat up spot me and Broken_detector lived on for years, and have pounded it with numerous machines including my E-Trac, and all my other detectors. I found some very small camp lead, and lots of bullets, some so deep that my D handled shovel was past the scoop, and pinpointer was all the way in the hole. All very loud and clear on the F-75, just listen to the squeaks, and on buttons the mid tones, and small iron are all just little grunts.

I have what, at one time, was considered a pretty good relic machine - a Minelab Musketeer Advantage II Pro. No notches and it is as deep as the F-75 on some targets. The F-75 edges it a bit for all metal with the same size coils.

Have to say I really like my F-75. Mine was one of the original models in 2007 and I've sent it back twice for upgrades. Nice of them to offer that as it keeps on being a kick-arse machine. But, as I said, I'm not really a relic hunter. I go out for coins and am happy to find interesting bits as I am a fair history buff. We just didn't have much action hereabouts for battles (still hoping for that Sullivan Campaign relic from the march against the locals in the Revolutionary War).

I can tell you I dig enough lead on my back hill to keep up with my muzzleloading round ball casting - between reusing my own and finding old slugs. There was one spot I have found over 20 lbs that was where a fence line entered a hemlock stand and the locals must have gone there to sight-in before homes were erected along that stretch of road. Also some items like old knives, a 1941 dog tag (dog warden collar tag, not GI) and hundreds of pounds of tractor bits, plows, harrows, etc.

Funny you say that, I also owned the very first F75 and I loved it. Without the newer upgrades it was still a killer machine. I have all I can handle for now, as where I hunt is mostly all wooded now, and getting a bigger coil in there would be next to impossible unless it was a solid coil. I have a hard enough time with the one I got trying to get hung up on broken twigs or branches. Luckily where we find our civil war relics all dropped, fired, buttons, and other civil war related stuff is very shallow as the ground is literally nothing but solid rock. I can’t use a regular shovel up there, we have to use our little Lesche diggers to dig through the 4”-6” rocks that litter that whole entire area.

Also to add what do you like to use on coins? I don’t stray much away from where I’m at now on mine unless it’s super trashy. Unfortunately the new machines don’t come with the smaller coil like my original one did.
