No idea really, but the ‘Y’ appears to be smaller than the ‘R’ and that has long been a common abbreviation for “railway”. Also, “SOU” was the reporting mark for the Southern Railway company between 1894-1982. Among other things, reporting marks were used to identify locomotives, rolling stock etc when travelling over the lines of other companies and accompanied by a number between one and six digits that uniquely identified the equipment.

Just a guess that it might relate to them in some way.

Looks like maybe half of an industrial bearing?

Thanks so much for the tips. I’ll continue to research it. I was thinking of selling for scrap, but perhaps it would be better to save as RR memorabilia?

Also it was found perhaps 100’ from RR tracks on an old industrial area that dates to +- 1900

It's a $25 item as it seems that the prices paid at the NC yards are being suppressed.
Ontario the bearing would generate $70 can. or double the value over NC.
