TnMntn. This is a chopper without a doubt. The buffalo would be quartered and split up for the most part. Chopping thru joints for movable sections for thousands of years by thousands of indians has left great quantities of these all over central and west texas. I started keeping them once I recognized them for what they are. Most are fist size or a bit larger, some were used once and discarded where as some were more refined and had repeated use and were sharpened further and further before being discarded. The most refined chopper we ever find is the Kerrville Fist Axe. That is refined to the shape of a large fine edged shark tooth. They have the common trait of retaining a palm sized area of cortex to fit the hand and maintain a good grip while your doing this sloppy type of work. G
