After posting on another thread for the first time my whole fossil passion was re ignited. Ive been hunting here in the keys for the first time in a long time and I forgot how nice some of the coral pieces can be. But I could remember a place in SW. FL. On my friends land where there was some big stuff found. One call and a 2 hour car ride and im standing next to a cattle pond with a fill pile next to it, and at the base of the fill pile where it meets the pond bank is this bad boy. Laying right on top of the ground. Probably been there a few years from when they dug this pond. They use it as a back stop for shooting. Found 2 other pieces of big bone.

These are the biggest fossils ive ever got and theres got to be more there. Any time they push any dirt around stuff pops up !! Just got to be there at the right time. Got to get back soon as possible. Could it be mastadon ?? They are large pieces.looks like a shoulder or hip ? I dont know, never seen any this big before.

The most common of the two "mastodon and mammoth" is the mammoth.
It is cool finding big stuff.
Be careful you may not have room to display if you find one complete femur.
Just think takes you all day to wrestle it into your truck take it home,
and then your wife tells you; you're NOT bringing that thing in the house!!!!!

I wound up donating a mastodon skull to a school. Just no place to display it.

There's this great show - Expedition Unknown - and the host does a show on Mammoths, where they go and collect leg bones of Mammoths to look for DNA. You can check it out and compare it to what you've got. Great FIND!

Very nice find. If you have access to a pile, I suggest making a standing sifter and go to town!!!! you will find some cool sharks teeth for sure. The big stuff you will not need the sifter lol. I have a few Mastodon and mammoth teeth and partial tusks.
