I've been stuck in the house for a few days with an ill wife. Yesterday morning she said she felt much better. I said "See ya!".
Went to a little Sierra town with a lead on a possible property to hunt. It didn't pan out, but it was an hour drive to get there, so I started looking around.
I noticed these old RR tracks that looked like they were abandoned long ago so I started looking.

Started hitting good targets right away, then...BANG! Big chunk of silver!

It was only 2-3 inches deep in the track bed

riprap right here.

Ended up with 6 wheat cents also;

1919
1926

Good fun on an outing that started out bad!

Even better day today, on my 65th birthday, with renewed hope for my wonderful country!

First of all, I wish you a happy birthday. And second, you found some interesting coins, especially that big, huge chunk of silver, good job.

Happy Birthday!

Nice finds! Do you know what was there at that track location in times past? Just curious why the coins would be at some random spot along the tracks?

Nice finds! :icon_thumleft: Looks like a track joint or past repair. Maybe settling of the track bed? Earthquake? :dontknow: Have a happy 65th and quit trying to catch me! :laughing7:

Happy 65th.
Great way of remembering a hunt that provides a big silver.

That's quite the break. Both fish plates snapped.
Cold shrinks/hot expands the rails.
The flat horizontal piece looks like a part of a derailleur.

I don't know much about RRs, but I wonder if that looks like a track switching location. Which would lead to my next question, could that mean a station location? That would be really nice for you.

Congratulations on the silver and Happy Birthday! :occasion13:

Happy Birthday, my 55th was yesterday!

WTG sniffing those out in the iron, not an easy feat for sure.

Thanks!
It's a very short double siding right in the middle of town, which tells me there was probably a station there at one time. It's paved on both sides of the tracks now so I'm sure a lot of goodies are under the asphalt.

Amen happy birthday
Thanks Evan!

You were a railroad worker, right? I'll take your word for it. :notworthy:

It's a short double siding so I'm sure there was a station there, but all paved over now.Happy birthday MXrat and congrats on that nice Walker. I know how that track separated, someone's ruler was short !

Thanks my friend! There's no catching you, but, that is my 8th walker this year. They just seem to come to me. :laughing7:
Pretty wild to see the rails separated that far. Beyond my knowledge level, but never seen a separation that big.
Congratulations on the silver and Happy Birthday! :occasion13:
