I am 99.9% sure this is a brass inkwell however, any guesses on age?
No glass insert found.
I think I can make out a 5 on the bottom but that is it.
Happy Holidays to all.

I'm thinking it is an old alcohol lamp instead of an inkwell, but I may be wrong.

That's a cool recovery, a find that is rarely posted up, if at all. Congrats

Nice find should clean up good :)
I wouldn't clean it much, It may have had a deep green or brown patina when new as was common on a lot of bronze and brass lamps, desk items, etc around the turn of the 18-1900s. A friend got a nice copper vase in an antique store with lots of green corrosion on it, he polished it up to shiny copper and discovered it was worth $1500 with original green patina and about $400 after he polished it. It is a very cool find!!
