Interesting find... What strikes me is the stars... or shall i say the "looks like" stars... but not quite.

this throws me... if it were military the stars would be stars... not snowflakes.

There were some other interesting find at this location... mainly a few Western Military Institute buttons. This location is roughly 2-3 miles from the original location of WMI. Im thinking Ky Militia... but I dant find anything to compare it to

I can only count 9 star/asterisk on the rosette.
So using this it would be in the time frame of General Jackson which would be in the 1860 era.
I would think maybe confederate as well.
Not really up on the civil war history-just my thoughts on top shelf recovery.
He's an image on a flask/Jackson was also on the flasks.
Though the eagle is facing right-it has the 9 stars which depicts confederate.
