A friend of mine found this badge this weekend on a site in Eastern Ontario. We've both tried to research it but have had no luck. I'm hoping that someone here might recognize it and be able to give us a date range. :icon_scratch:

Thanks very much,
Dave

I don't recognise it, but it looks like it might be a Scottish clan badge. There are a number of them which have a clenched fist holding something or other... daggers, crosses, emblems and pieces of regalia etc. If you go a-Googling for possibilities, pay attention to not just the item in the fist, but also the way in which it is being wielded... business end protruding upwards or downwards from the fist.

For example if that's a dagger (with the blade bent/broken) in the fist then it's not Barclay clan, where the blade of the dagger extends from the top of the fist, not the bottom.

Duh, it's a cuff of a shirt, meaning the images are inverted! I thought at first glance it was a crown, I need to get some caffeine and wake up more.

Edited to add: Looks like it could be dagger, as the tip end doesn't look broken in the backside image. So a fist holding a dagger in a downward stabbing pose....Maybe?

It's a late 19th C Cloak fastener.
Thanks again for your help here guys. :occasion14:
Cru's theory seems to make the most sense.
