Nice round ball. At first I was thinking a lead seal, but it looks copper so thats out. Like Don said, carefully clean it. Then get some dimensions and add'l pic angles.

I found it in Newport RI. Same place I found a 1664 spanish cob. It's very rare to find anything other than stuff from the 1700's from this site I'm at.

In pic #2 in the op, I'm seeing a horse with a woman riding it. I asked my wife what she saw and she came up with the same thing instantly.

In the new pic, the horse is facing towards the top of the page.

Maybe I just have an active imagination.

I think you right about the medallion, the 5 ship scene comes in lots of different metals & types.
