Only about a week ago, I was admiring the Seated Quarter on Silvermonkey's 12/2 thread "Bucket List Find, plus Bonus." I commented on his post that I had never found one myself. My luck changed yesterday at my cornfield permission. I was scanning between the rows of 10" high cornstalk stubble, when I got a nice solid high tone on the AT Pro. I dug the plug and the coin pretty much rolled out off the pile. I thought at first it was a modern state quarter, but quickly determined it was a Seated Quarter. I hardly ever find Seated coins, and this is my first quarter. It is an 1853 with arrows and rays, so it is has one of the highest mintage totals of the series. However, that doesn't bother me at all, as it is a beautiful coin in great shape. I am no expert, but it does not look like it was in circulation long. Hope you all have good luck this weekend, as long as it is not in my field :laughing7:.

That is truly a beautiful coin and it's hard to imagine it saw any circulation before it was lost- the condition is mind-boggling! Also hard to imagine living in any other state with the incredible span of historic coins and relics we turn up seemingly every day- very blessed are we...

Thanks Jeff! I was really psyched when I got this home and was able to give it a close look. I could immediately see it was in great shape. Yes… we are very lucky to be in an area with such old soil, as it gives us a chance to find some really great stuff. I wish it was easier to get permissions though, as it is tough to drive by nice old homes with very little chance of ever detecting their grounds, especially if you’re a bit gun shy like me. Thanks again and good luck out there. Look forward to seeing your next post..

(lets see if tradition continues) "Well, I've never found a seated quarter either.........."

Awesome condition, congrats!
😄 If that works, I’d be looking at commenting similarly on some banner posts! Thanks, and good luck out there.

Now that's just down right a sweet looking Lady. Congrats!
I got the same year, but did the dreaded shovel kiss doing the recovery in the bush.

I hate when that happens! I did the same thing with a Barber quarter this summer. Thanks for the comment, and happy hunting!

I've gotten to except the fact if it's a old US silver quarter, I'm going to scratch, ding, carve her somehow.
Done it to the Seated, Barber, 1918 SLQ-it's like I'm cursed digging them.
And I remember that feeling of "oh crap" I didn't did I-yup!

I feel your pain. Funny, I don’t think I have ever scratched a clad quarter though 🤔. Good luck with the next one!

Why is that, I often wonder also.
Maybe it's a case of the silvers being mixed with the iron patches of the older sites. Good signal but just off enough to do the ding.
Dig wide-Dig deep.
It comes as a painful reminder on the silvers.

Maybe silver is softer than clad, so we might hit clad and not know it. Or, maybe it’s just a good-coin silver jinx😁. I try to dig wider holes when I can, which is tough in some places. Oh well… good luck.
