Was up at my property in Smyrna NY this weekend and figured I'd do a little detecting. Didn't find much, but did find this old bullet. Can anyone tell me what era this old slug is from?

Looks like a shotgun rifled slug that,s been fired through a tight choke.I don,t have any guess on the age since they,ve been around for literally a hundred years or more in several basic forms. Nice one!

Shotguns firing slugs have been used to hunt deer in NY State in all parts except the Adirondacks for a long time.

Only thing I remember specifically about slugs is Winchester/Western slugs had a star on the nose and Remingtons didn,t. This would be from the late 50s to late 60s. Of course that still leaves Federal,Peters.and a host of foreign manufacturers.Just about impossible to pin a specific date to it.

There,s something about that one that,s odd though. The concentration of weight in the nose and overall short appearing length is odd for U.S. made slugs,as is the thinness of the skirt,what,s left of it. May be a clue for someone with more knowledge. Maybe it just got squooshed from hitting something.Still looking for something more informative!

Best I can do is maybe an early Remington Express or Canadian Imperial-CIL slug. I searched for vintage Rifled slug.These were in paper hulls but no date given.The pictues on the boxes resembled yours to some degree.

Rifled shotgun slug for sure, That has some age to it as the lead is oxidizing giving it that whitish hue.
