Sorry it took so long Burdie.

A couple of weeks ago I had a chance to go down to Caldwell and met up with Burdie. We went to see if we could find the original townsite of Chikaskia, Ks. we found it, or pretty close to it.
we found bits of pottery and glass. Some old bottles , a license plate from 1922. I've got a bottle from Turon, Ks. the old Turon Bottling Works, although I can't find any reference to the company. Burdie found about 4-5 bottles too.
Had a great time, and I'm sure we'll do it again.

That looked like a 'Fun hunt'.
That old license plate is a great find.

Fossis...............

we left the plate but brought back the bottles

we're going to go back before the wheat starts to grow, I might grab the plate when I go back

I'll grab it next time and bring it with me down to the LTH (Luisianna Treasure Hunt)
see ya there

That's great! Burdie told me he thought he'd found the town. 8) Sounds like it was a bit off from where I'd figured. As for the name Chikaskia, for those interested it's pronounced Shikaskee.

I found another reference to it and I think the post office was actually located inside the house on the property where we were looking, although the house is gone now. I'll have to get with Burdie for some more thinking and theorizing,
it's his find and site, so it's up to him

Wow we did have fun alright. The bottles were just on top of the ground. Think what is deep under the surface. Come on weather cooperate!! Thanks for teaming up with me on that site Sniffer.
Say don't be taking pictures of that old ugly fart in the post.

I hope it warms up a little bit by saturday, I have to finish an enclosed porch, and I'll be working on the outside.
