I WAS LOOKING AROUND MY HUSBANDS GRANDPARENTS HOUSE OVER THE WEEKEND. I FOUND SOME CHANGE, A FEW WHEATS, AND A SYRACUSE & EASTERN BUS TOKEN. CAN'T FIND MUCH INFO ON IT. ANY CLUES???? TY!!!

That's a nice way to welcome someone to the board, and the hobby. I'm at a loss for why caps are so bothersome, enlighten me please.

I don't have a problem with it at all.

Just wondering if they were ready to unleash the fury. :headbang:

OKAY

Sorry to the thread starter.. I post on off-topic forums where anything goes and we give each other crap in every post. I guess it spilled over into this forum for a moment.

I sincerely like your finds and like yourself, this is my first year of detecting. I welcome you to the forum and I hope you learn as much as I have in the short time that I've been here. These people know everything.

Welcome to TNET

Welcome to Tnet! Keep at it! Nice token! HH!!!

A good-natured jibe in my opinion... gave me a chuckle.

My Pop kept some of these lettered subway and bus tokens from when he was in the service. I thought it was so cool to look at them with him and let him tell about the cities he'd visited.

Cool finds!! Good hunt indeed. Sorry I cant offer any info on the token though :(

Nice find... All I can tell you is the token was good for fare on one ride :tongue3: They are always great to find and I have 2 older NYC ones.

Atwood's Catalogue of US & Canadian Transportation Tokens lists your Syracuse & Eastern Bus Lines, Inc. token as #875 B (if made of bronze), #875C (if made of brass), or #875D (if made of steel). The difference between bronze and brass is tough to tell, but the steel would be attracted to a magnet. The book also says, "Syracuse & Eastern Railroad was incorporated in April, 1923, as successor to the Syracuse & Suburban Railroad, which had been sold at foreclosure proceedings. Syracuse & Eastern Bus Lines was a subsidiary, and ultimately the name was changed to Syracuse & Eastern Transit Corp." There is no real date given for when this token was in use.

Typically, bus and other transportation lines used tokens rather than cash for fares so the driver would not have to be concerned with making change, handling money, etc. The rider would buy the tokens in advance from the business office or other outlets.

You did well, and for me... I like tokens and that is a nice find.

From what I have been taught when you use all " CAPS" it means your yelling.
No big deal.
