Thanks for the monarch photos Bill. There aren’t as many out west either. As a matter of fact the monarch was found to meet the requirements for listing on the endangered species list by the USFWS, “but declined to add it, stating at the time other species were in greater danger”.

Thanks Mike I heard on the radio yesterday that there is a big decline in the Monarchs.
It’s said that they come all the way from Mexico..I often wonder how they can achieve that task
Take care
Bill

Great pics! We used to see lots of them but not anymore. I haven't even seen a grasshopper in town lately. But lots of Japanese beetles!

The love milkweed. I have about ten plants in my pollinator garden and had several caterpillars on them. There is even a chrysalis hanging under the eave of my screen porch now.

I plant milk weed just for them. I have collected only one monarch caterpillar this year which has since become a cocoon in a special enclose I made for it. It's best to take the caterpillars from the wild if you find them and raise them in an enclose. If you leave them outside 90%+ will die and never become butterflies. The main predators I have seen are wasps that use the caterpillars as food for their young by laying their eggs on/in them.

Swallowtail and Monarch in my garden:
