I found this object with civil war and colonial era finds in an area with a lot of civil war action. I have not found anything like it, I've been told it's everything from a button to trench art. I have no idea any help is appreciated.

Looks like carved lead to me. Maybe he was making a button, or a nipple protecter for his gun. Or maybe just whittling. Either way it's a great find.[emoji106]

Open the picture of the face and you can see an eagle clutching arrows. I just thought that it was to intricate a detail to carve.

Do you you think civil war or rev war it's definitely a federal eagle?

I can't see it good enough to say. Try to get a close up picture and someone with more smarts than me may know.

Is the Eagle impressed in or is it standing out.Could have been a bullet heated then pressed to a button to get the emblem?

I do not know what the item is, but I can tell you that the eagle is the 1820s-to-1860s style of American Military eagle. It closely resembles the eagle on US Army Model-1826 breastplates (which were manufactured continuously from 1826 through the civil war years).

eagle was pressed
the arrows should be in the right talon and the eagle looking to the left if it were a button
so my guess would be "trench" art
