It fits just fine for that construction of button, I think you nailed it. Livery Buttons are always fun to find, most went on servants like coachmen/footmen etc
Dad & I have got a collection of just over 170 different types, I always like to see one I haven't got yet, & I never would have thought when I started this hobby that I would get interested in buttons! All part of the fun of where our finds take us.

Ahh Thank you x I’m still in shock at the pendant i found yesterday, been searching for the coat of arms, without success, so really pleased that this button was more straight forward! I agree 100% it’s a truly awesome hobby. (The peacock is for the Manners family, but guess you already knew that!) x

Nice button Blossom and nice backstory too. Nice lead,I like lead, easily worked, useful for many things and relatively cheap. I like to take old found lead and mold it into fishing lures, catch a fish with 100 year old or older lead!

Nice button! I love it. I like your information behind the button. You mentioned the peacock is for the Manners family on the button, does that mean that the button design of the peacock was only manufactured for the Manners family only? I like to learn this kinda stuff as I come along with it. Thanks!

This is the one that closet resembles it. I believe family’s/ households had their own, but not 100% sure!

Alas no, ive searched for the coat of arms… but not found it yet, but will keep searching!! I do not like being thwarted in my quest 😆 x
I had a pretty good site bookmarked.
I found it easy to navigate and find the ID on the one I found.
I'll see if I can find it in the AM for you.

The land gents had there family coats of arms but the up and coming new money industrialist and rich merchants etc wanted to fit into high society and they had no family coat of arms, so they would pick one, some were generic, so several 'new money' people, with not enough money to do a die run of new ones would have the same, probably not in the same town. There was more new money in the 1830-40's than the landed gents, so they were not unique to many families in that sense.

You would need to get very lucky. Without the background colours, and at least you know the dots are yellow, you can have several coats of arms look identical until you colour them in.
