Not really enough information to tell what kind of rifle it is from. With the small size it would be from a later period long rifle or a lighter half stock like an Ohio style or something similar. I would say more likely a light half stock percussion rifle. Most of the later or "golden age" long rifles were more ornate, and had a long patchbox. There would be a notch on the butt plate where the long patchbox closed over it.[/]”
I used the name Kentucky Rifle as a generic term. Maybe American Longrifle would suit it better. Yes, it’s most likely from a rifle from the 1840’s and up. Could have been on a half stock or fullstock gun, and yes, I see no indication of it having a notch for a full patchbox, but it could have had the later toilet seat patchbox on the rifle. A very nice find.
