OK, so am looking for another MD. Am quite happy with my SeaHunter 2 for those trash free areas but due to my transition into other areas where, at least some discrimination is needed (iron, nails etc), what machine to get?

Both these cost about the same, similar depth rating (for scuba)..

Anyone use either / both, any suggestions / strong points / bad points etc?

Thanks all!

I've used both with equal results. The main difference is the Excel will sound off on coins and rings under iron without masking where as the CZ might not sound off at all if iron is disc out. I use a neck harness for both except when diving.

Thanks Sandman.

So the boat is on fire, you have to jump and grab one......... which one!

I'm grabbing the Excalibur, there is a lot of iron trash in our waters...

Me too. If just for the fact of finding a gold ring under a railroad spike.

No I am confused......

I watched this and asked why he chose the 21....

he said; <<<<BVI Hunter It all depends on the type of hunting. The Excal goes a little deeper but the CZ-21 is better at separating targets in iron areas like dock sites. I use them both....>>>>

An excal will still report on gold when by iron if you re-sweep from a 90° different direction. I have found gold rings on targets that nulled one direction but gave good signal from different direction when I re-sweep from the different direction.. Found scrap iron and gold ring in scoop when I recovered ring...No way of knowing the relation of the iron and gold ring before I dug..

Excal, hands down - I owned a CZ21, called it my shoebox on a stick. It was awesome for finding nails!! I graduated to the Excal and never looked back.

thanks all, great info!

For diving/shallow wading and using the stock shaft setup the CZ-21 is best IMO. And I like it better in iron over the long drawn out null of the excal. The zero motion pinpoint is helpful in zero visibility or tight spaces. I prefer the 8" coil over the 10.5 shown in the video. I've owned and used both and for straight up scuba diving, out of the box, the cz-21 wins hands down.
For wet sand only the excal mounted on a rear mount straight shaft is great. If I was located where you are I think scuba and snorkeling would be my first choice of hunting and the tough as nails cz my choice over the excal.

Thanks Fletch

I must be honest, I am drawn to the 21 and I do like the pinpoint feature which can be an issue at depth when I don't want to be tied down with kit (vibra probe, scoop etc)

I am getting more into the "jewelry recovery" as I find myself with more free time and I had narrowed it down to these two machines to give some discrimination as I hunt into more "populated" areas.

TRF- do you think you missed many targets (gold etc) by using the 21 that you maybe would have found with the Excal?

BVI... With all the money you made off selling those used sewer pipes, you can probably afford both, so problem solved!
