If it says "B L US" it may be from the 1884 Blaine/Logan campaign.

There is a similar hat stud (with an H R on it) attributed to Benjamin Harrison's campaign. But when I searched "Grandpa's Hat" and Blaine I found this mention that indicates the original "Grandpa's Hat" was connected to him and if the letters on your item are "B L" that would make sense.

(Edit - see my post below for a correction to this theory!)

I need to correct myself! Not Blaine /Logan .. this hat was a Harrison symbol. I found this auction listing for another, which says it is R.L.U.S. for Republican League of the United States and circa 1892.

Each silver luster metal hat is about .75" across. The shape is to remind voters of Harrison's grandfather's successful 1840 campaign. The example with brass letter "H" is Sullivan/DeWitt 1892-37. The example with enamel flag has tiny letters "R.L.U.S." standing for Republican League Of The United States. Also likely from 1892. Both Exc.
