I picked this up at a relic show yesterday, it’s a Canadian 20 cent piece turned into a pin, the front is clearly hand etched but we’re having trouble with the design. Also, the rim around the front seems to be professionally etched, but the symbol seems to be hand engraved. Is it possibly a Cannon, and the loop part is the fuse, and the tool below is a ramrod? Or is it a more specialized design for a certain trade? Any thoughts? The date on the coin is also 1858.

That's really a nice purchase.
They only minted the 20 cent piece one year, 1858.
I was lucky and found one detecting.

1858 was the (alleged) year the "swing dingle" , "cant dog", "ring dog" , "ring dog cant hook" was changed (in new design) to a fixed directions hook. Vs previous swing any direction hook.
Guy named Peavey gets credit for stopping the left right swing with a "clasp".. And too , of attaching a spike to the end to what are called peaveys.

The "cannon" is a cant hook and the "ramrod" is a wooden maul - both lumbermans' tools. Look up "cant hook" or "peavey" and "wooden maul" on the internet and you will see the resemblance.
Wow, thanks for the identification. I guess it was just a one off thing someone made to identify their trade, pretty cool!

Kinda cool that it was the same year as the coin, thanks for all the info! Probably won’t be able to research the purpose of it, as I said I suppose someone made it to signify their trade as a lumberjack, so really cool piece in my eyes.
