Had a short hunt in the fields of legend. Targets are far and between but you never know what you might find especially from these fields. The 1827 capped dime is a beaut. The clipped one reale looks as though it was in a fire with no detail except for the bubbled looking surface. The colonial button is one that matched two buttons I pulled from a tavern site a couple of years ago. A little silver stem to a pocket watch. The little bent brass plate I tossed into my pouch not knowing that it depicts a horse and rider carrying a flag, the other visible side has a horse with rider rearing up. I was very surprised when the images were reveled. Very cool. I’m not sure of the period looking at the hat on the flag carrying rider. What do you think? There is a little story bent in the folds of this brass plate. I want to run down to the shop and straighten it out but a little leery of losing the detail. Decisions, decisions…

Thanks Eric, these fields have been what we all are looking for. I think this is our trio's third month and there is always something to find.

BEAUTIFUL finds! Any day a capped comes up is a special day indeed. Even more so if it is in decent shape like yours.

The horse and rider is an interesting piece. Not sure about that one.

But I do suspect that your silver piece is a part of a silver mechanical pencil. Believe it or not, they did have those quite early on, and they have turned up in Civil War sites before. See the tip of this one, which screwed in to the larger cylinder:

Surperb Capped Bust dime Arty :headbang: Has the Field of Legends been plowed yet? If not, I would imagine the weeds are starting to grow.

I agree with Buckleboy about the silver tip - most likely from mechanical pencil

It's great to have a site you can keep going back to and know that it will always produce a surprise or 2. Is that cut coin legit silver, or is there a chance it's a counterfeit? For some reason I always find myself questioning coins that have that "look", but many times they are indeed the real deal. Nice hunt!

Thanks Steve, no plow as of yet. I think I will bring my lawn mower with me, I think I can attach my detector to it.:laughing7:
The drafting pencil that Buck showed an example of is sweet. I would like to find the rest of the silver one I have the tip to.

It seems like more and more fields aren't being plowed. I'm waiting on three.

Thanks Bill. Yes its a legit clipped 1 reale that had been torched somehow. I found a copper months ago in the same area that was melted on 1/3rd of the coin.
