I'm a little embarrassed to post this, but I found it today and don't really know what it is. I posted it on Facebook and one of my very knowledgeable friends asked "me" what it was. I feel as though I should know, but alas, I'm dumbfounded. Front and back with Indian Head for scale. Please... UPDATE>>> Found this oval thingy today at the same site. I'm thinking the square "shank" hole is related to the identification of both. The homesite dates from the 1830's to the 1920's.

It could be the backing plate for a US Army collar disc.
