Hello, I found the pictured small tag in an old fairground between Machiasport and Calais, Maine. I found an 1847 large cent in the middle of the oval track going back to my vehicle. Before that I found a US Padlock with the key still in it. What it was doing therr I don't know. This small tag with a number of 923364 on it and an etching of an elephant on the bottom of it. I have been attempting to find any information sbout it but have been unsuccessful.

Sole plate off a golf club? A better photo and something for size might help the I.D. guesses.

Heel or toe tap?
I don't think so. It is made of copper, probably too soft of a material for that use. I still think it has something to do with elephants at a circus. I found it at an old fair grounds. It has a number on it 923364. I have been trying to find out online but so far no luck.

I think it must be a tag off of some type of specific circus elephant implement.
Like a trainer bar or pointer, or a stool that the elephant gets up on.
Just thinking out loud.

Cool find! Music instrument case tag or speaker tag is my guess...the copper plate would be too soft for anything that has wear contact. Fairgrounds are used for almost everything, livestock shows, school band performances, carnivals, rodeos and yes circuses!

That seems plausible. There is a federal register for Ivory, maybe some of the exotic collectors out there might know more.

Flush mounted /inletted escutcheon. (?)
Countersunk holes hint of woodscrews. In turn hinting of wood being what it was inlaid in flush..

Not a lock escutcheon. But perhaps a push button. Or through hole for something else.

Not finding much.
A box maybe.
A slot cut in it for dispensing paper tickets? Numbered for accountability.
Or a shoeshine kit for elephant toes!
