Civil War related?

Found this in a creek while away where a lot of civil war activity and battles had occurred. Looks simmilar to a carbine strap plate, but I'd say it's too big. Any civil war relation or ideas?

Dont know, but its heavy. I think its lead. I wanna say it is civil war related based on the fact that it is lead and has that confederate looking star on it. But again, I'm not sure.
