Tnetter Bergie invited me to meet him last Thursday for a little metal detecting. I can’t thank him enough for the invite. This is the first time I have traveled since the virus started. The spot was in the Lowcountry of SC, 3.5 hours from my house. He had found CW bullets there, so I was excited.

Bergie lined up permission for a property where the Confederates had a cannon emplacement. The owner had cleared the area of underbrush from around the old oak trees, which really made detecting easy.

Here is a pic of the breastworks where the cannons sat.

It was a beautiful place. Lot’s of wildlife.

I immediately hit a couple of Williams type 3 cleaners, that were obviously discarded. They were 6” apart. I knew the place was going to be good. I ended up finding a total of four.

I found this 12.7 gram flattened piece of lead with holes in it. Relic Nut suggested a button, but I’m not sure.

While we are at it, let me know if you recognize this ribbed piece of metal, the key is has star shaped holes along it’s edge.

Here is a piece of black glass bottle rim and China I eyeballed.

This square nail appears to me, to have been specifically bent into a loop. There were a LOT of iron square nails at the site, but this was the only non ferrous one. Ever seen this?

I found a couple of fired rounds.

I found two .58 caliber Minie balls, and one Prussia .69 caliber monster, 55.1 grams, almost 2 ounces!

Two coins showed up. One slick thin British copper, and a bulldozer bent large cent!

The prize of the day was a bayonet scabbard tip. It’s smashed and missing the finial, but that’s OK. I spent an hour looking for the finial, with no luck.

Here is a pic of all my finds, I hunted for about 6 hours.

Awesome digs with an awesome guy. So glad to see you get out during these times Tom. Stay safe my friend and enjoy what life has to offer. I'd sure love to dig one of those cleaners someday.

I'm glad you found some cool stuff, I so miss getting out. I'm doing a hunt this coming Wednesday with my brother in law who landed a great permission out in that town where you found that Walker Half that day, if you remember the town was close to those fields we were in, the street is named, "ye old grand street" the farm he got is right on that street. The owner said he has lived there 50 years and no one has ever detected it!
