I went by the club the other day and noticed they had mowed the front field. I have detected there a number of times over the years and frequently find bullets and relics from the civil war skirmish that took place in 1864. I decided it was a good time to try again. I have been doing grids on sections. I keep track of the grids on a printed out copy of a satellite map.

I spent 3 hours working a grid in the front field and found one .58 caliber minie ball and a harness buckel. I also dug a pile of bits of barbed wire, tabs and other miscellaneous metal listening for the little beeps that signal deep bullets. I spent 2 more hours on the picnic grounds trying to see if I could find a few coins. I have found bullets there, but not as many as on the field. I even found a half reale once. But today just coins and a modern copper clad bullet.

Clad total was 20 coins with a face value of $1.75. The buckel is probably from the old farm before they built the club in the 1930s. The minie ball has been fired and was probably moved around over the years by plowing so it is a little extra beat up. It was about 8 inches down. I?ll take it as the best find of the day.

Not a great day, but they can?t all be wonderful. Thanks for looking, stay safe, good luck and may your coil lead you to good things.
