coin and jewelry inspection

what do you all use for coin and jewelry inspection.My eyes aren't the best any more.I have a magnifying glass but its just not enough.

Jewelers loupe. Buy them on ebay cheap.

If you have a pair of old binoculars or a telescope that maybe has seen better days,take it apart and test the various lenses to see if they give the desired magnification.Works pretty good for me and doesn,t cost anything.Or just get a 20X jewelers loupe.

Most of the high power ones on ebay are phony plastic lense that distorts so badly you can't even see it. What do you expect for $10? If you are like me, that is all I can afford. Real optics are high priced.

A while back a saw a video on one of those cameras/microscopes you hook up to your computer. Magnification by itself is okay but when you run the computer magnification that's when the distortion hits. Sorry I can't find the video.

If you have an smart phone some of the magnifying apps work pretty well. I have an iPhone and I use this app > Magnifier App. I like that it allows you to freeze the image, look at a negative image, and adjust contrast. All of the attached images were captured from this app. h/h
