Sounds like a large cent.... maybe a half cent if its only slightly larger than an IH cent. Can we see a pic comparing the coin in question to other coins? A large cent is a bit larger than a quarter.. a half cent is smaller. Either way, it's a great find. Congrats

It sure looks to be the size of a V nickel, as well as the stars and left face. Too small for a Two-center. The only part that seems off is the color. I've never had a V nickel come out of the ground with that green color. Usually I've found them with a reddish cast to them. In any event, this was a nice recovery and I look forward to someone solving the mystery.

I'd be willing to bet V-nickel.

I agree. Definitely not a large cent or a half cent.... I was winging it without a pic... :laughing7:

Go to harbor freight and buy a 40$ rock tumbler and some white aquarium add 5 tablespoons of the gravel and then fill with hot hot water to just above the top of the gravel, run that bad boy for 1 hour and check then do that for 3 more hours checking at every hour mark!! You will be amazed, and your lovely patina will still be there

Definitely a V nickel in very poor condition. Only the "heads" side is barely visible to an extent. The date is 1890 ! My first coin from the 19th century.
