Wow is all I can think of to start this post, just wow! Got out on an evening permission at a 1870s house north of me. The woman told me it's been hit before but I was welcome to give it a go. Finds started out slow and it was obvious it was picked over pretty well but I kept pushing. My first keeper was the 1865 2 center! Pretty rough shape but I'll take it! Found one wheat and then the mercury that I kissed with my shovel. Went along the side of the house and hit the silver Washington! I was pretty happy with the finds at that point and was considering leaving because it was getting late. What happened next was absolutely amazing! Came across a strange signal, it was really scratchy with high and mid tones and it sounded a little large but I figured why not, let's dig it. First popped out an Indian and a piece of leather with 2 coin impressions on it and I was like OMG!!! I knew I had some sort of either change bag, or change purse. I kept plucking v nickel after v nickel, then a barber dime, and some wheats, then a 1900 silver Canadian quarter, and another barber and more Indians and wheats. All in all there was 6 v nickels, 4 Indians, 4 wheats, 2 barber dimes and the Canadian silver quarter! Nothing older than 1900 but by far the most fun I have ever had detecting!! I'm on cloud nine with this hunt!! Thanks for looking and reading the long winded post and happy hunting!

It's so rare to find an old coin purse that actually has coins in it. Wow indeed! Great find...great pics too. Congrats!
Thank you! I'm thrilled to have the 1900 Canadian quarter as part of it!

Were you able to save any of the coin purse? If so,you could treat the leather remains to preserve it and put it along with the coins in a display box under glass. I have done this with some of my finds over the years and it makes a nice display. Nice find.

Yes I have a small fragment of the leather that has 2 impressions from the coins on it. It's fragile so I'm gonna try and seal it with something

I don’t know about anyone else but I’m curious how you preserved the leather…

I haven't yet. I don't know what to use. It's kind of hard and not very flexible so I don't want it to fall apart to dust

I'm really surprised your find hasn't made the BANNER yet. :icon_scratch:

cjon You are living one of my dreams .Many years ago I found a small dump or maybe and out house It was not a lot of bottles but most of them where from the late 1890's to the early 1910's .I also found broken pottery some old hand forged logging tools and about 6 horse shoes .I have picked the area many times and I doubt there is much left . .But than I found an old ceramic pipe .. In thinking about the site I NOW think it was a work camp for loggers or a crew that was digging rocks .And I believe the glass dump was where the outhouse was .And the bottles where just dumped in the hole .One day while digging and using my detector I got a signal; After some digging I found several small pieces of brass that looked like some type of frame . I was able to locate enough that I am sure it was a small change purse .Since than I have been there a few more times and turned up more of the frame I am convinced it is some type of change purse which could lead to some old coins being there also .I had kinda given up on it but seeing your post now makes me think I should give it another try Congrats on a nice find
